Supporting the NHS to become menopause-friendly

With almost one million women working in the NHS and nearly half of those between 45 and 64 years of age, menopause awareness is of vital importance to ensure staff are supported to stay well and thrive in the workplace.

Menopause symptoms can have a significant impact on attendance and performance for women at work. We need to ensure that employees are well informed and that organisations adopt a culture that ensures employees feel confident and comfortable discussing menopause.

Creating a menopause friendly culture in the workplace requires a holistic approach; it takes far more than just having a menopause policy in place. Arden & GEM NHS embraced this holistic approach by hosting a series of bitesize webinars during World Menopause Month. MenoHealth were delighted to be involved and share the benefits of MenoClasses offering support, information and exercise – the perfect trio for health and wellbeing during this time of change.

Julie Robinson, along with MenoLeader and NHS Health & Wellbeing Coordinator Sue Copeland, offered practical tips on how to build exercise into busy lives showing simple stretches & circulation boosters that can be done at your desk every day. You can see their presentation here

Thousands of NHS staff joined the webinars over two days and to answer the many questions that had been posted, Julie joined the expert panel on menopause with Deborah Garlick of Menopause in the Workplace, Dr Shahzadi Harper of The Harper Clinic and Jackie Lynch, author of The Happy Menopause.

Many questions were answered about menopause, HRT, fatigue, insomnia, what vitamins and minerals you need, practical tips on eating well and how to beat that menopausal midriff and stay fit for future health. You can watch the webinar here: Expert panel on menopause

To address the demand for a suitable support and exercise programme for busy women – both at work and at home – MenoHealth have launched a 10 week programme of support, education and exercise sessions. 15 minutes covers the main questions and talking points of menopause of menopause such as weight gain, brain fog, hot flushes and HRT.
